XIVTH INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM OF GENEALOGY IN SPAIN

The XIV International Genealogy Colloquium (hereinafter referred to as the Colloquium) was organized by the International Academy of Genealogy, the International Confederation of Genealogy and Heraldry (www.cigh.info), the Society of Genealogical and Heraldic Studies of the Canary Islands (www.segeheca.com) and other partners at the Old Monastery of Santo Domingo, La Laguna (Spain) from 25 to 28 June 2025. The theme of the Colloquium was: “Genealogy and family history: between the past and the future”. More than 30 lectures were given at the Colloquium, and the accumulated experience and research were shared. Representatives from Spain, Mexico, Italy, France, Germany, Cape Verde, San Marino, Lithuania and other countries participated in the Colloquium.
June 25. Registration for the Colloquium participants began at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m. The Colloquium was officially opened. Welcoming speeches were given by Maria Loredana Pinotti degli Uberti, President of the International Academy of Genealogy, Fernando D. Rossi-Ferraroli Delgado, President of the Society of Genealogical and Heraldic Studies of the Canary Islands, and Adolfo Cordobés Sanchez, Member of the City Council of La Laguna.
Dr. Manuel Pardo de Vera y Diaz, Director of the Royal Spanish Hidalgo Association, delivered the closing speech of the Colloquium. The Colloquium was broadcast live on the Family Search YouTube channel throughout the day.
The next part of the Colloquium will take place on October 22–25 in Gotha, Germany. The topic of the Colloquium is: “The Roots of Gotha, and their connections with the world – Center of noble and non-nobel genealogies”.
The Colloquium has been organized every two years since 1999 (www.geneacademie.org/about-us). This year is the first time that the International Genealogy Academy has decided to organize the Colloquium twice a year in different countries. In 2027, the Colloquium is planned to be held in Monaco.
