DIRK WEISSLEDER RE-ELECTED AS DAGV CHAIRMAN

Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft genealogischer Verbände e. V. (DAGV)

At the 76th Deutscher Genealogentag, held at the University of Göttingen, a new Board of the Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft genealogischer Verbände e. V. (DAGV) was elected. Dirk Weissleder was re-elected as Chairman for another three-year term.
DAGV is the German umbrella organisation for genealogical and heraldic associations, representing more than 25,000 individual researchers. Over the next three years, the newly elected Board intends to further strengthen the organisation’s national and international activities.
An important step in this programme will be a central workshop in Hamburg in November 2026, dedicated to the future of genealogy and heraldry. The meeting will contribute to developing a programme and priorities for the coming decade.
The 76th Deutscher Genealogentag in Göttingen also provided an opportunity for DAGV to present new approaches to communicating genealogy and heraldry to a wider audience, particularly younger generations.

Among the initiatives presented were AI-generated comics and visual materials designed to introduce genealogy and heraldry in an accessible and contemporary way. At the same time, DAGV continues to emphasise the fundamental importance of reliable facts, sources and documentation in historical and genealogical research. According to DAGV, the new visual approach received a very positive response in Göttingen.

Looking further ahead, the 79th Deutscher Genealogentag in Halle an der Saale in 2029 will mark several important anniversaries: the 80th anniversary of DAGV, the 40th anniversary of the Association of Computer Genealogists (CompGen), and 40 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
With its newly elected Board, DAGV enters the next three-year period with an ambitious programme focused on cooperation, innovation and the continued development of genealogy and heraldry at both national and international level.
